If you’ve ever run out of heating oil on an icy New England night, you can attest that it’s not fun. Your home is left without a functioning boiler or furnace. Your water heater might also be left cold. You could well be left wearing a coat, hat, and scarf indoors until you receive a heating oil delivery.
The Cubby Oil & Energy team handles a lot of emergency fuel deliveries at this time of year in Boston and surrounding towns. We can tell you how to address a heating oil run-out and how to avoid one altogether.
Your heating oil tank has a gauge, typically located on top of the tank body. The gauge is a glass or plastic vial with a disc suspended in it. The gauge has markings like a car’s fuel meter: F, ¾, ½ and ¼. The position of the gauge’s disc tells you how full the tank is. If the disc is at or near the bottom of the vial, or you can’t see it at all, your tank is nearly or completely empty. Contact us right away for a fuel delivery.
We ask our “will call” customers to reach out to us when their tank gauge is at about the ¼ mark. This allows our driver time to reach your home before you run out of heating oil.
Fortunately, even if you run out of heating oil entirely, it won’t cause any permanent damage to your boiler or furnace. You will, however, be left without home heating until we can get to you. The fastest way to remedy the situation is to call Cubby and arrange an emergency heating oil delivery.
After your tank is refilled, your heating system’s burner will need to be primed, which involves bleeding out any air that is in the system. You should consult your equipment manual for specific guidance, or you can talk to one of our technicians.
If you enroll in our free automatic delivery service, you never need to call us for heating oil — and you can say goodbye to worrying about an unanticipated run-out.
Cubby Oil & Energy has a cutting-edge computerized system that uses your customer history and current weather patterns to calculate how quickly you’re using fuel. Then, we can arrange a heating oil delivery before you run too low.
Additionally, you’ll be happy to know that all our customers receive Bioheat® fuel, a blend of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil and organic biodiesel. Bioheat fuel leaves fewer deposits in your heating equipment than traditional heating oil, which allows you to go longer between maintenance visits.
You can enroll in automatic delivery service right now when you become a Cubby Oil customer.
