How to Check Your Ductless AC Filters

Just like a central A/C system, ductless mini-splits have air filters. For the most part, these are reusable filters, so you don’t need to replace them. You will typically find these filters in each of the indoor air handlers (sometimes referred to as “heads”).

You should check your ductless A/C equipment’s user manual for the specific steps for inspecting and cleaning your filter, as there may be particular instructions that can impact its performance. For example, some Mitsubishi Electric products have additional enzyme filters that cannot get wet.

In general terms, you will shut down the air handling unit and then carefully open the front panel and slide out the filter. Clean the filter, and once it is dry, return it to the unit. Then, you can turn your system back on.
