Biodiesel is a “decarbonizing-now” product that slashes emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide, mercury and particulate matter.
You don’t need to modify your heating system to use this fuel, and you still get robust home heating with a lot of other benefits. While B50 Bioheat fuel has a marginally lower heat energy content (approximately 133,000 Btu/gallon) than petroleum heating oil (138,500 Btu/gallon), it generates far more heat than either natural gas or electricity. Biodiesel has a slightly higher cetane number for improved ignition properties. It also improves fuel lubricity, slowing down wear on your system’s parts. Finally, it burns cleaner with fewer deposits after combustion.
