The Right to Choose Your Home Heating

Did you know that the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is currently working on rules that could drastically impact how you heat your home? As drafted, the MA Clean Heat Standard (CHS) could compel local companies like Cubby Oil & Energy to convert customers to electric heat pumps at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars. That would be just the beginning of the financial pain for Bay State homeowners, since increased demand would likely drive our electricity rates higher than they already are.

Due in part to public comments expressing concern about the impact on consumers, the DEP is thankfully scaling back some of CHS requirements. Even so, we need a climate plan that embraces all green energy options, including the B50 Bioheat® fuel that’s decarbonizing the homes of Cubby customers right now. (See article on Page 1.)
